Living Your Yoga

Yoga is a Sanskrit word which literally means "yoke" and translates to "union" between our bodies, minds and souls. When we develop a relationship between our body, mind and soul, we naturally come into balance. This balance is on every level -- physical, emotional, mental, psychological and spiritual.

But how do we develop this relationship between body, mind and soul? 'Living your yoga' means paying attention to ourselves on every level.

For example, on the physical level we could go to hatha yoga classes, both exercising the body and opening up the body armor (tension patterns, e.g., in the jaw, neck, shoulders, etc.) we develop unconsciously. On the emotional level we might seek psychotherapy; or do the peace procedure offered in EFT; or perhaps participate in a 12-step program and do a 4th step self-inventory with a sponsor.

On a soul level, we could develop a meditation practice and work with the breath. Life-force energy flows on the breath and leads us to the portal the breath provides back to Spirit. Just imagine the body is gently wrapped around the breath, and release the wrapping...be your breath and discover Who you Really Are.

'Living your yoga' means integrating the above practices into your daily life. As you wait for the bus you can concentrate on your breath; as soon as you catch yourself blaming another you can ask yourself what you're feeling inside on a deeper level. Yoga can be done in class, but you can also 'live your yoga' right at your desk, during brief breaks at work.
