The Advantages of Free Yoga
One of the wonderful things about Yoga is that if you have some basic experience in it and a mat you can do it anywhere - for free. Yoga is not hard to do once you have learnt a short sequence of movements and can flow through them without stopping to think too much. This makes it one of the easiest and cheapest forms of fitness routine available.
It can be useful to go to a series of yoga sessions for a while to help you get used to the postures (sometimes called 'asanas'). However if you find a well illustrated book or a decent DVD you can immediately start to practice at home. To be safe while you practice it is advisable to get a yoga mat as these are non-slip rubber and will prevent you skidding when you are doing some of the stronger poses where your feet or hands might slip on the floor. With that you are prepared.
Make sure you have some private uninterrupted time when you will not have people bursting in on you and turn off the phone for this short time. The idea of a yoga session is not just that it gives you a pleasant and fairly gentle routine that works through all the main muscle groups of your body but that it helps you R-E-L-A-X. The way it helps you do that is partly to do with the concentration you need to put into doing the poses which cuts off other things from your mind but also the regular breathing pattern you develop as you do the movements. Lastly, but oh-so-importantly, is the relaxation session that comes at the end of any yoga session. The relaxation time is an absolute necessity in your practice. Dont think you can skip out early and miss this. You cant! It is a posture in its own right and has many benefits including lowering blood pressure and changing the focus of your nervous system to being calm and centred rather than being ready for flight or flight.
So you are prepared with your mat, your comfortable clothes that don't have to be specially bought, your dvd/book/memory and a quiet time in the house - and you have it all to have a wonderful free yoga session right there. Enjoy.
